2017 staff transitions

Caleb Barnes
May 1, 2017

Please join us in welcoming Caleb Barnes and MaryAshton Floyd to Young Life staff.
As Caleb and MaryAshton transition on to staff, Kayln Waller and Brian Owens will be moving off. We are thankful for Kalyn and Brian and their investment in area kids -- we look forward to seeing the Lord's plans for their lives unfold.

Mario Caleb Barnes is a Wichita native who comes to us after working with
elementary, middle school and high school kids in USD 259 for the last 18 years. He will join Wichita Young Life staff in June. Caleb is married to Keisha and has a newborn daughter, Isabella Grace. Caleb says he's excited about joining the Young Life team and working with kids, staff and volunteers in ministry and "seeing what God is going to do in this new season." When he's not mentoring and hanging out with kids, Caleb enjoys playing basketball, playing the organ and drums, taking photos and DJing.
MaryAshton Floyd
MaryAshton Floyd, a recent graduate from the Kanakuk Institute, will join Wichita Young Life staff in August. MaryAshton is a former leader for Andover Wyldlife and was active in Wichita College Young Life while she attended Wichita State University. She brings years of leadership experience from working as a counselor at Kanakuk Camps in Branson, Mo., and serving as a leader with KLife in Conway. MaryAshton says she is looking forward to serving in Wichita and is excited to “wake up every morning with the mission and purpose of kids and leaders hearing, understanding, and prayerfully accepting the gospel of Jesus -- and letting it radically change their lives.” In her free time, Mary Ashton loves to read and enjoys running.

Kalyn and Adrian Waller

Kalyn Waller has been a Young Life leader at South High for six years. For the last three years she also has served on WYL as teacher staff. To serve kids in the Wichita community, Kalyn and her husband, Adrian, both South High alums, intentionally moved a few blocks away from their alma mater to make it easy for kids to come in and out of their home for Campaigners, to hang out, or if they needed to talk. After working as a para to be in the everyday lives of kids, Kalyn found a love for teaching. Over the past two years, she has been working hard to complete her masters so that she could earn a teaching degree and teach at South High full time. Kalyn graduates this May and has been offered a teaching job at South High starting in the fall. She is excited to maintain the relationships she has developed with kids through Young Life and hopes to return to the ministry as a volunteer after she has transitioned to her new teaching career. We are thankful for Kalyn and Adrian’s commitment to bringing the message of Jesus to students and their plan to remain active in the South High community.

Brian Owens and his son, Brian Jr.
Brian Owens served as Wyldlife leader at Robinson Middle School for two years before joining staff part time last year. From the moment Brian completed leader training, he dove into Wyldlife and contact work with kids at Robinson. His favorite part of being a leader is spending time with kids and reading the Word with them. After balancing the demands of fatherhood, school and serving on Young Life staff, Brian says he's looking forward to moving back into a volunteer role so he can spend more time discipling students at Robinson. Currently, Brian is working to complete a degree in ministry and plans to become a pastor of discipleship or small groups. Brian hopes to continue building relationships with middle school kids at Robinson, help them grow in their faith, and connect them into a church body.
